About Our Site

SafeTravel was formed to offer a unique reference point on travel safety tips and advice.
Travelling abroad is exciting. There's no doubt about it. Some of us spend two weeks abroad per year and the other 50 weeks thinking about them. But it's important to recognise that while it can be fun and adventurous, travelling abroad also carries risks.
Foreign travellers are seen as ripe pickings abroad for all kinds of unscrupulous people, including pickpockets, con artists and, in some countries, even terrorists.
SafeTravel aims to help you understand the challenges you might face when travelling abroad, whether you're on an extended holiday or just a brief business trip.
In the UK, you are protected by the NHS. But what if you or a family member are struck by a sudden illness while travelling, or sustain an injury when you try something a little too adventurous? Do you understand your entitlement to medical treatment abroad, if any? Do you need to arrange insurance? These are the kinds of issues our website explores.
Safe travel, of course, means not just reacting to bad things that happen but minimising the chance of them happening in the first place. Our site is packed with helpful advice which will allow you to sidestep some of the nasty situations you might face. As well as general tips and information, you'll find concrete discussion of specific locales and the risk profiles they present.
